Tenorio Volcano National Park is a natural reserve located in the northwestern region of Costa Rica. The park was established in 1976 to protect the Tenorio Volcano, which is an active volcano that dominates the landscape of the region. The park covers an area of approximately 18,000 hectares and is home to a variety of ecosystems, including cloud forests, rainforests, and hot springs. One of the most popular attractions in the park is the Rio Celeste, a river that boasts an intense blue color due to the chemical reactions that occur when two streams with different mineral compositions converge. Visitors can hike along the Rio Celeste Trail, which leads to the river's waterfall and overlooks the volcanic crater. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, and jaguars. Birdwatchers can observe more than 300 species of birds in the park, including the resplendent quetzal. In addition to hiking and wildlife watching, visitors can also enjoy hot springs and waterfalls, as well as zip-lining and horseback riding tours. The park is open year-round, although the best time to visit is during the dry season (December-April) when the trails are less muddy and easier to navigate.
